  • Centre Introduction Dr.Jane Goodall visited Chang Jung Christian University in 2014, we initiated the long-term cooperation plan of establishing the “International Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Eco-center” and planted a tree of hope at the site of the newly founded ecological center where the spirit of Jane Goodall can sprout and thrive with hope that the young people in Taiwan will create a better world.
    The Eco-center takes the concept of the University’s Christian spirit as its main driving force for development. Based on the principle of holistic education, the Center follows the practice of the Universities development strategy, gradually expanding its international perspective and striving to provide sustainable education for everyone, while affirming the dignity and value of all life.
    Eco-center's environmental education program aims at awareness, knowledge, environmental ethics, civic action skills, and civic action experience. The main characteristic of the program revolves around the International Roots & Shoots action and spirit. Based on learning experience and age differences, the program allows the student to obtain the appropriate concept.     The design concept of the program combines localization and the Roots & Shoots international action plan to develop the series ""Highlights of Paper Bricks"",""New Hope for Erren River"". and ""Water Magician"".

  • IntroductionWater is the most important element for the development of life. Surrounded by sea, Taiwan has plentiful rainfall. However, it’s not easy for Taiwan to retain fresh water due to its natural environment. During seasons of water shortage, water used in the daily life of humans is often restricted, which shows the importance of water resource conservation. The activity includes the water environment course of Project Wet, reviewing an ancient map of rivers, and water quality monitoring. Participants can have hands-on experiences with inspecting water sources on campus, surveying transparency, water temperatures, dissolved oxygen, pH value, and the characteristics of the water environment in our life, and also respectively discovering the differences between different inspection points for water sources. Additionally, participants have to find out whether these differences might threaten the survival of other living creatures.

  • IntroductionEarth is composed of both land and water. But do you know how much of our planet’s surface is covered by water, or what percentage of water is accessible to humans? The issue of uneven distribution of water resources is very important. The course will help participants learn about the distribution of water resources on Earth, helping them comprehend how much water people can use. Additionally, through group cooperation, group members transport usable water to a designated location. In the following unit, each group in the course will work together to find the best rainwater harvesting facility with the method of collecting rainwater with a model house. The course adopts the teaching methods of teamwork, competitions, and team thinking.

  • IntroductionFeaturing the sustainable use of resources, the course is inspired by material circulation, energy flow, and the fundamental theory of development of interaction between human beings and the environment. The course was first designed due to the massive amount of waste paper created by different units on campus. From a user perspective, the course adopts the idea of the circulation and reuse of waste, and the recycling of energy resources to deconstruct paper, which is later given a new life cycle, re-created by being turned into innovative building materials—paper bricks. The paper bricks are assembled to build a feasible environmentally-friendly building. The application of paper is expanded to the features and hands-on activities of paper bricks. The course is carried out with a focus on life experience, environmental issues, and collaborative construction.
