  • Centre Introduction The National Cheng Kung University Marine Biology and Cetacean Research Center, located in Annan District, Tainan City, is an environmental education center which merged 3 different fields: research, education and cetacean stranding rescue. Thus, we provide environmental education courses related to cetacean conservation.
    The main exhibition room “Nanying Marine Conservation Education Center” has a special skeleton collection of a sperm whale which exploded on Ximen Road, Tainan in 2004 and other cetacean specimens. The visitors will learn not only the evolution and present state of cetaceans but the human impact on the marine environment. Furthermore, we will introduce the latest researches and the preparation of bone specimens to the visitors. We have decades of experience in cetacean stranding rescue, therefore we offer the related course to introduce the correct process to deal with a stranding site to the visitors.

  • NameGround Zero - The first response to the cetacean stranding rescue
  • IntroductionAs the communication technology and the public environmental awareness evolved, more and more cetacean stranding news are now revealed in the social media and so on. In our record of stranding rescue, the people around the stranding site were often obliging and willing to aid. However, doing it in a wrong way will extend the time for the animal to be rescued, cause secondary damage and put the people themselves in danger. Thus, the course "Ground Zero - The First Response to the Cetacean Stranding Rescue" will provide the visitors a gate to learn the correct safety knowledge and process to handle the stranded animal. Later on, there will be a mock exercise. By using inflatable dolphin models and real tools, the visitors will understand how the process being executed. In the end, we will share some real rescue cases to the visitors to explain the significance of cetacean stranding rescue.
